On March 15, 2017 the MUBS Internal Audit Directorate held a one day Workshop under the theme” Improving performance: MUBS challenges in today’s environment”. The workshop was held at the ADB Building, Nakawa Main campus.
In his opening remarks, the Principal of Makerere University Business School, Prof. Waswa Balunywa thanked the Director Internal Audit, Mr. George Asiimwe for organizing the workshop to sensitize the MUBS Community about need for good internal Audit systems.
He also commended the Internal Audit Directorate for ensuring that MUBS’ risk management, governance and internal control processes are operating effectively. “A good internal system consists
of internal checks. I am happy that our internal audit is working well.
Prof. Balunywa noted that Audit is all about risk management and control. Therefore it is important that the School comes up with a more holistic view of risk management across the entire organization.
The objective is to create a risk and governance culture by improving MUBS’ capability to pro-actively identify, assess, prioritize and mitigate risk; support existing strategic and budget planning processes; and build a foundation. Prof. Balunywa stressed further the need for Accounting Officers in public institutions to be accountable and transparent. It is important that MUBS is exemplary in what we do because Government uses tax payers’ money to run these Public institutions, therefore
there is need to use the money the way it has been allocated and also give accountability for it,” said Prof. Balunywa.
The Ag. Internal Auditor General, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Fixon Akonye emphasized that Internal Audit exists to add value to institutions. He commended the Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa for being in position to account for the public funds
