The Faculty of Vocational and Distance Education( FVDE) is in charge of the overall management of the Diploma and Certificate programmes at MUBS, the academic activities of Arua and Mbale Regional Campuses and oversight of the Private Institutions affiliated to MUBS.  It also coordinates the running of the postgraduate Diplomas in Education.

The functional fees payable per year for Ordinary Diploma and Certificate programmes are UGX 459,000 (Ugandans, East African & South Sudan) and US $498 for International applicants

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

A. ORDINARY DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

i) DIRECT ENTRY SCHEME

 Each applicant should have the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 5 passes and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least 1 principal pass and 2 subsidiaries obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.

ii) CERTIFICATE HOLDERS SCHEME

Certificate holders should have the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 3 passes and hold an Academic Certificate qualification from a recognized

Institution or a Certificate in Business Studies offered by UNEB with at least 5 passes obtained from different stages. Applicants with Professional Qualifications must have passed at least a half of Stage/Level One of the professional qualifications from a recognized institution and a Uganda Certificate in Education with at least three passes.                                                                      

B: CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES

Each applicant should have a Uganda   Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 3 passes obtained at the same sitting


 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

The Department of Education was started in December 2014. It falls under the Faculty of Vocational and Distance Education. The new department is aimed at providing education related courses to the public. The department offers education related Diplomas, Undergraduate Degrees, Masters Degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas.  The NCHE has approved two postgraduate programmes; the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Education and the Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship Education.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Each applicant should have obtained at least a Bachelors degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution or an appropriate professional qualification like ACCA, CPA, CIM, ICSA.


LUZIRA PRISONS INMATES STUDY PROGRAMME                                                                            

The Faculty of Vocational and Distance Education runs the following programmes for inmates at Luzira Upper Prisons as part of the School’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

  • Certificate in Entrepreneurship in Small Business Management (CESBM).

 MUBS is mandated to affiliated Private Institutions  as per MUBS policy, Institutions interested in affiliating with  the School. The applicants must have the following attachments:

 

The mission, aims and objectives of the Institution.

  • Registration and governance of the Institute including legal documents and management structure.
  • Authority from the Ministry of Education and Sports to run the Tertiary Institution.
  • Registration by the National Council for Higher Education
  • Title of ownership of property where relevant and or Tenancy Agreement.
  • Annual Budgets and sources of funding.
  • Present staff and their qualifications and Terms and Conditions of Service.
  • Physical facilities and teaching materials, classroom, furniture, library, books, canteen, etc.
  • Enrolment Capacity.
  • The Institute’s Strategic Plan.

A visitation has to be made to the Institution to enable the School make an assessment based on the above Affiliation Instrument.

 FIELDWORK FOR DIPLOMA STUDENTS

Diploma students undertake fieldwork as part of their programme structure.  Fieldwork is conducted to empower the students with real work life skills to produce practically oriented graduates who meet the required job related competences of their employers.  It also serves as a linkage between the School and various stakeholders who consume services and or graduates of the School.
