The Department of Procurement and Logistics Management was curved out of the Department of Marketing, Procurement and Logistics Management in 2006. This lead to the creation of two departments, that is Marketing department and Procurement and Logistics Management Department.
The first head of Department was Mr. Elvisa Khisa who was succeeded by Mrs. Sarah Eya Bulamu, then Dr.Moses Muhwezi, Dr. Levi Kagambe and thereafter Dr. Aruthur Ahimbisibwe who is currently the acting head took over from Assoc. Prof. Nixon Kamukama.

HEAD OF DEPARTEMEMENT

Dr. Arthur Ahimbisibwe holds a PhD in Supply Chain Management, Master of Science in Procurement and Supply Chain Management with a distinction, and a first class degree in Bachelor of Business Administration specializing in Procurement and Logistics Management. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (UK) and a Certified Procurement Professional, Institute of Procurement Professionals of Uganda-(IPPU). He has over nine years’ experience in teaching at Makerere University Business School where he is currently is a senior lecturer in supply chain management.

European Journal of Business and Management, International Journal of Economics and Management Science, International Journal of Business and Social Sciences, International Journal of Business and Behavioural Science, International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, Operations Research for Southern and Eastern Africa Journal, , Journal of Organization, among others.

During his doctoral study, he was declared Victoria University of Wellington’s post graduate top scholar in 2011. One of his research papers was awarded the best paper in Technology Innovation and Supply Chain Management at the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management conference in December 2011 in Wellington, New Zealand. He has been internationally recognised twice for excellence academic performance by CIPS (UK). He has conducted and participated in over 110 training workshops in both private and public procurement. Due to his doctoral work, involvement and contribution in trying to understand why software projects fail or succeed, he was elected a board member of software Quality New Zealand (SQNZ) in 2013. He is also an international member of Project Management Institute (UK) and New Zealand local chapter, PRINCE2 and Agile communities of Practice. His current teaching and research interests are in public procurement and supply chain management, contract management, project management, and strategic procurement. Dr. Ahimbisibwe has been involved in collaborative research and successfully co-published many journal articles with his colleagues at both Makerere University and other universities, who have continuously expressed high hopes in him. He is always glad to get involved in collaborative research with researchers who are based in any local or international University. He hopes to be promoted to a full professor of supply chain management at the end of this year.

Procurement and Logistics Management is the most flourishing discipline that cultivates at the cross road of new trends in both Private and Public entities. It provides the most demanding skills one can learn to excel in his/her profession. Department of Procurement and Logistics Management is committed to excellence in teaching, research and inculcating a sense of pride and confidence in our students.

The objective is to empower our students with latest technical knowledge and skills by providing them with the best teaching, excellent research and development environment. The motivation is not just to nurture their technical skills but to provide professional grooming and guidance so that our students come-up as thorough professionals and inspiring individuals. To meet the objectives the department pays special emphasis on teaching and hands on practical work with much emphasis on e-procurement and e-logistics.

As a Department we endeavor to provide best professional opportunities to our students and look forward to their bright future. We as a team resolve to take the department to heights of success and glory and prepare for the forthcoming challenges.
